Celebrate Albertan Art

Month of the Artist 2024 Animation Commission

This animation project is the work of local artist Shanell Papp. They maintain an intensive studio art practice, working in textiles, sculpture, photography, drawing and recently learning generative AI, hairwork, rug tufting, machine knitting. Papp’s work has earned a large following online for an anatomical model made of crochet. Her work redefines the boundaries of Textile Craft and Fine Art. At all times grotesque, painfully funny, laboured, and insightful. With interests in crime, anatomy, funeral practices, cartoons, psychology and folk practices. The work refers to many things, but remains true to her voice. Papp lives and works in Lethbridge and can be found with her cats, her close-knit family or at the Public Library. This project was funded in part by the Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society (AMAAS).
