You are invited to the Reception and Artist talk for Lethbridge’s newest completed Public Art work, ‘A Similar Nature’ with local artist and educator Michelle Sylvestre.

Refreshments and music are included with this invitation; a cash bar will be present though drinks are at the expense of the attendees. There is no need to RSVP; we simply ask that you extend this invitation to your networks.

Local artist Michelle Sylvestre has completed the most recent piece of public art at the Legacy Park Pavilion. ‘A Similar Nature’ was created in response to her experience working with mentor and artist Susan Day, creating Lethbridge’s first public art mosaic at the Legacy Park Picnic Shelter, titled ‘The New Nature’. Installed inside the Pavilion, ‘A Similar Nature’ consists of thousands of handmade ceramic and hand-cut mirrored tiles, and similarly considers motifs of nature, resiliency, and community. It features abstracted and imagined evolutions of local flora, with delicate impressions of insects pressed into tiles as small as a fingerprint. Like its companion mosaic, ‘A Similar Nature’ encourages repeated viewing and reflection of our similarities to nature.

The public is invited to the reception and opening at 6:00pm on Tuesday, August 15; an artist talk with Michelle Sylvestre will start at 7:00pm and will be recorded for further public viewing on the Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge’s YouTube channel. Legacy Park Pavilion Project Background Opened in 2018, Legacy Regional Park hosts several opportunities for all ages to engage with the outdoors. Located in the Uplands/Blackwolf neighbourhoods on the City’s northside, Legacy Park offers 30-hectares of outdoor activity space including pathways, a spray park and playground, pickleball and basketball courts, as well as a performance area and picnic shelter. The Legacy Regional Park was approved by the City of Lethbridge as a Capital Improvement Project in 2009 and was completed in a two-stage construction, which focused the latter efforts in expanding the amenities available to the public.
