“Oboe and Electronics”

October 22 | 12:15 p.m. | University Recital Hall
Free admission, everyone welcome

Join us for a captivating noon-hour recital featuring internationally renowned oboist, Dr. Aleksandra Panasik, as she presents a unique program titled Oboe and Electronics. The concert showcases innovative new works composed specifically for the artist over the past two years by various composers, including a piece by Music faculty member, Dr. Arlan Schultz. These pieces, many of which will appear on her upcoming CD with music for oboe and a drone, draw inspiration from Luciano Berio’s Sequenza VII.

About the artist
Aleksandra Panasik graduated from the oboe class at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk. In 2021, she received a doctorate in music performance from the same institution. She complemented her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart and then at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, with Prof. Christian Hommel, an oboist of the renowned Ensemble Modern. Aleksandra participated in the International Ensemble Modern Academy course in 2019. Two years later, she was invited by Peter Veale, oboist of the celebrated Ensemble Musikfabrik, to participate in a course in interpretation and performance of contemporary music. Additionally, she took part in Darmstädter Ferienkurse.

Classical contemporary music is Aleksandra’s main area of interest. She has collaborated with a number of internationally recognized composers, including Jorge Torres Sáenz, Arlan Schultz, Georgina Derbez, Alberto Caprioli, Katarzyna Arnhold, Sungji Hong, Ana Lara, Maria Lord-Kniveton, Iris Szeghy, Mark Andre, Piotr Grella-Możejko, Aleksandra Bilińska, Charles Stolte, Michał Janocha, Katarzyna Taborowska, Stefano Pierini, Gwyn Pritchard, Jack Vees and others.

In 2023 she recorded an album OBOElectronics with new works of various composers for oboe and electronics. All compositions besides one were written expressly for this album. Currently, she is working on her next CD with music for oboe and a drone.
