Calling JJ Shiplett a force of nature might be considered a hyperbole to those who haven’t heard the singer perform live, but for anyone that has, it fits the bill just right. Few musicians can capture a person’s attention by way of song as effortlessly and honestly the way Shiplett does. The Canadian roots singer-songwriter and producer whose raspy and unflinching honesty have turned barrooms and theatres into choirs across North America. Since his CCMA nominated debut, Something To Believe In (2017) Shiplett has amassed over eleven million streams, won multiple awards, and launched his own imprint Redbuff Records – champions high-fedilty, artist-centred releases for Canadian talent.
His sophomore record, Fingers Crossed, resulted in another CCMA-nomination in 2020. The album further showcases his ability to captivate through contemplative songwriting and emotive performance with songs like Wanting On The Rain and Closer.
In the fall of 2022 JJ released an exciting new song called A Different Kind Of Light. An emotional and energetic song about a light that we all have and how with each interaction we share a little of ours, for a little of theirs.
The spring of 2024 brought a brand new recording. ‘A Way Through TIme’ featuring 7 new songs with a bold new direction to match JJ’s ever evolving abilities that resulted in another Canadian County Music Award nomination for Alt-country album of the year. And now leading into 2026, Shiplett returns with another new album ‘All My Money on Red’, 11 exciting new songs that will be released alongside a documentary featuring the process and sacrifice of an artist in this new world.
