July (Main Branch Display Case, Theatre Gallery)

Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society is a non-profit group, formed in 2012, to bring the joys of live Shakespearean performances to Lethbridge audiences of all ages. The actors and creative team are drawn from University of Lethbridge theatre students and alumni, and community theatre groups. It is a unique opportunity for young actors to perform a whole season of Shakespeare, and many past actors have moved on to professional acting careers in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary, while others are now teaching Shakespeare in high schools.

Previous seasons of “Shakespeare in the Park,” set in beautiful Galt Gardens, include A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, and last year’s The Tempest. This year’s performance is Macbeth, directed by Monique Prusky, and is one of Shakespeare’s most memorable plays – a riveting drama of ambition, murder, guilt, and revenge, set around the gloomy castles and witch-haunted heaths of medieval Scotland.

Performances are accessible and free (with donations welcomed at the end of each show). See you in the Park! Opening night is Thursday, July 4, 7 p.m., Galt Gardens.
