Lethbridge Community Taiko Association: Pop Up Event – Japanese Cultural Day

Our local history is rich due to the influx of the Japanese people in our communities.  Lethbridge Community Taiko Association intends to host a celebration of this Japanese Culture as it pertains specifically to Southern Alberta.  Activities will include the following:
Local Speakers:
  •  Galt Museum historian Belinda Crowson – local and recent Japanese history
  •  SAEA Executive Director and member of Nikkei Cultural Society of Lethbridge
  •  George Takishima – History of Local Japanese Canadians and INternment Camps in Southern Alberta
  • President of the Nikkei Cultural Society Lethbridge and Taiko instructor David Tanaka – celebrating the Japanese-Canadian experience in Southern Alberta
  • Demonstration of Japanese dancing by Minyo Dancers
  • Taiko Workshop for the public provided by LCTA Music Director Isaac Neufeld and Music Instructor Marc Van Tol
  • Taiko performance by Midnight Taiko (of Calgary) and LCTA
