July 7, 2018 @ 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm MDT$25.50 – $125.00
July 7, 218 at 2:30 pm at the Lethbridge Public Library Main Branch Theatre Gallery
Lethbridge’s summer classical music festival, Centric MusicFest will feature international guitar sensation, Iliana Matos; Juno award-winning violinist and concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Andrew Wan; and Lethbridge and Alberta originating musicians trio “Opus 3” (violinist Aidrie Robinson, cellist Christine Bootland, and pianist John-Paul Ksiazek), mezzo-soprano Camille Rogers, pianist Perri Lo, and artistic director, Ryan Kolodziej.
Based in Lethbridge, Opus 3 is a dynamic trio made up of violinist Airdrie Robinson, cellist Christine Bootland, and pianist John-Paul Ksiazek. They perform regularly together in formal concerts as well as more informal gigs such as Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens. All three are instructors at the U of L Conservatory of Music, where they provide private instruction and are active in the Strings Academy, which Airdrie directs. Christine also teaches for the Medicine Hat College Conservatory, and both Christine and Airdrie perform regularly with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra. John-Paul has a wide range of experience as a soloist, chamber musician, choir accompanist, and orchestral musician.
Opus 3 will perform a selection of dramatic chamber music repertoire, featuring Schumann’s passionate Violin Sonata No. 1 in A minor, followed by Barber’s early, yet magnificently written Cello Sonata, Op. 6. The afternoon ends with the devastating Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67 written during the throes of the Second World War by Shostakovich.
